Turned in the first rough draft of my doctoral thesis today, all 243 pages of it. I shall now commence to be more active on here as soon as I stop falling asleep in front of the computer. :)

Taking off tomorrow so I can just rest and draw and recharge. The editing process of my thesis should be a little less insane; my adviser gets it for a week, then I have another week of edits before turning the entire thing in.

Anyway, sorry for the brief absences lately!

I am a 30-year-old female geek from the United States who loves animated movies, satire, and fantasy/sci-fi. I'm primarily a digital artist, and I've been drawing since I was very young; I mostly love drawing animals (I'm quite terrible at drawing humans). I live with one cat, and I'm currently working on my Ph.D. in infectious diseases. Once I get a job, I'm hoping to go back to school part-time to get a degree in animation.

Wow, I just found myself in the situation of defending your art style, because I said that copying/heavily referencing Disney cliparts isn't the best way to learn how to draw. <_<

Oy. xD It isn't. Learning from RL is much, much better. People improve a lot more if they have a solid understanding of RL anatomy and movement. TLK style has a lot of anatomical flaws.

I draw TLK because it's a stress-reliever for me, but if I really wanted to get good, I'd need to spend a lot more time drawing from RL and developing my own style from that.

Your tribute to Sir Terry was so simple and yet so very elegant. Thank you.

It's so sad that he's gone. I don't think it'll really sink in until I get through the last book I've gotten (The Science of Discworld Part II). He was such a brilliant man, and his insights into humanity and his humor will be sorely missed.

Yeah. I cried when I learned what happened, and I cry every time I see a beautiful tribute piece on DeviantArt.

I keep thinking I should read his last book (Raising Steam), but part of me is reluctant for some reason. As if once it's read, there will be no more.

The ones he's co-authored are excellent as well. :) Have you read The Long Earth series? Or The Science of Discworld? I think they've become some of my favorites.

Raising Steam was really sad for me ... mostly because it's not nearly as well-written and crisp as his earlier works.
