Ghariki Name Meaning:
Delta Island PrideRank:
Ghariki's father, Nakama, was ousted from his birth pride along with his three brothers. Forced to wander as rogues, they stumbled into Delta Island territory at a rather fortuitous time. An older princess of the pride, jealous of her younger brother's place as heir, coaxed the wandering rogues into covertly murdering both her rival and her own father. Nakama than took the princess, Huni, as his mate. With the help of his brothers, he ruthlessly dispatched any faction or individual that dared oppose him.
Ghariki ('Ghar' for short) was born several moons later, the older of two sons blessed to the new king and queen. Spoiled outrageously by his mother, and battle-hardened by his brute of a father, Ghar grew up a bully of the worst sort. Unlike his more meek younger brother, Ghar was charming enough when he needed to be, and quickly formed a cohort of close 'friends,' mostly other youths who enjoyed tormenting those who couldn't fight back, or those too frightened to go against his wishes. Several of these members would go on to become part of what he fancifully called 'the prince's guard.'
King Nakama was discovered dead late one evening during Ghar's adolescence, in circumstances that suggested murder - for why else would a strong, healthy lion simply keel over? Throwing the blame for his father's death firmly onto his brother, Ghar drove his sibling out of the lands entirely, and took his father's place as ruler of the Delta Island Pride.
His father's throne wasn't enough. Ghar quickly embarked on a crusade to push the neighboring pride's borders even further away from the center of the lush deltalands, enslaving or killing those who stood against him with the help his own personal guard. With the addition of new lands, he styled himself High King and gave two of his loyal cronies lands and titles of their own, establishing them as lesser kings underneath his rule, with their own prides.
Arrogant and sure of himself, Ghariki was taught fighting from his father and the more subtle art of manipulation from his mother. While he's no slouch in a fight, he's still merely average-sized and tends to rely on brain over brawn when he can't muscle his way through something. If he has one downfall, it's that he does tend to be overly superstitious, and loathes the old tales told by the native Islanders.
