She really loved her mate, Mopani (the father of the cub). <3 When he died of an illness, she became pretty wild with grief ... which slowly melted into bitterness that he'd left her so son. Unfortunately, her son was the spitting image of his father, and Safihi (the mother) just couldn't cope with that, so she ended up rejecting him.
It has a happy(ish) ending. The cub grew up, married into royalty, and became the next king of the Kivuli pride. x) Safihi sort of made up with him in her old age, and was on better terms with her grandchildren.
I shall try to down the road! He's one of my favorites, even if he is an older character of mine for an RP that no longer exists. I have a lot of stuff on my to do list right now, but I will get to drawing him again sometime. <3
Yup. :3 It's a long story, but Safihi (the lioness) lost her mate Mopani to sickness right after she gave birth to his son. Safihi was incredibly attached to Mopani, and highly resents the fact that she has the cub around to remind her of her dead mate, considering he's the spitting image of his father. It just hurts too much.
The story is more extensive, but the basics are that the mother (Safihi) lived on the fringes of a vast desert with her mate, Mopani. They were pretty much head over heels in love, Safihi was too dependent on and incredibly attached to Mopani. Eventually they had a cub together, who was the spitting image of his father. Unfortunately, soon after his birth, Mopani grew ill and died. Inconsolable and increasingly unreasonable, Safihi grew wildly bitter and resentful towards her son, who was a living reminder of her loss. She eventually abandons him entirely, and he's found by and raised in another pride, where he is betrotched to the heiress and becomes the next king. :3 Later on in life his mother finds him again, but they never really reconcile their differences before she passes on.
